Spiritual Screening and Spiritual Assessment: different tools to serve a common end.
Rush’s perspective, tools, experience and learning
Program Summary
In a time when patients often have short hospital stays and chaplains are a scarce resource, how do we decide who needs us most? The Rush Religious Struggle Screening Protocol shows promise as a brief series of questions that seem acceptable to patients. This simple tool highlights for the chaplain which patients might need further assessment and care. The presentation will include presentation of gentle research about the merits of Rush’s Screening tool, as well as their Assessment tool and how they differ.
Program Objectives
- Describe religious/spiritual struggle and its affects.
- Examine the Rush screening tool, the Rush Religious Struggle Screening Protocol, and distinguish it from assessment.
- Using a published research article about the Rush Protocol, name some characteristics of a valid and reliable tool.
